Screw piles, also called screw anchors or helical piles are built using different sizes of hollow steel tubes for the main shaft. These shafts are made from high-strength 350–400 grade steel. Attached to the base are one or more helical plates, along with teeth that help the pile drill into the ground.
The main role of the pile shaft is to carry and transfer the structural load deep into the earth. The helixes are welded onto the shaft based on the type of soil and expected ground conditions. These helical plates can either be shaped into a specific pitch or made from flat steel plates fixed at set angles.
